Service Projects
Current Projects
Currently our care bag recipient organizations are as follows:

NRGH Central VI Sexual Assault Unit
Haven Society
Clearview Detox Center
Crossroads Crisis Center
Samaritan House
RCMP Victim Services

We have approximately 750 requests for the bags each year. We make and fill Altrusa Care Bags for women who are victims of violence and/or rape. These bags contain items such as soap, shampoo, cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, etc. (basically everything they will need for approximately 2 days). We are also including reading material, personal care products and booklets produced by the City of Nanaimo called Surviving in Nanaimo. Separately, each agency is given underwear and bus passes to be handed out as needed. This project was suggested by the nursing staff at NRGH and has been applauded by the participating agencies.
